Are you taking Statins?
Another aspect of statin therapy that has attracted interest is co-enzyme Q10, an essential component of a chemical chain responsible for energy production in the body. Statins inhibit Q10 synthesis and energy-consuming tissues such as muscles, which naturally contain higher levels of the co-enzyme, are more likely to suffer - one reason why as many as one patient in five on statins may complain of muscle aches and/or stiffness. Two small trials have suggested that Q10 supplements can ease muscle pain when taken with statins. Meanwhile, some specialists are recommending supplements at a dose of around 100mg a day (ask your practitioner)
